  these guys are as dodgy as they come, after 1 month i am already hiring lawyers to try and get me out of this tenency agreement. they will not carry out the most basic of landlord duties and are completely disinterested in solving tenant problems, the property i moved into was fine on the surface but has turned out to be full of maintainence related problems. while at first they would make empty promises to a repairmen round, they now just ignore my phone messages and emails. steer well clear of these people!

  The most appalling, incompetent, dishonest group of people I have ever encountered. I reported a serious maintenance/ security issue shortly after I moved in, in June. For 3 months they told me they were getting permission from the council to deal with it. Then I called the council and discovered that this was a lie and they had in fact never contacted them. The council then wrote insisting that they deal with the problem and they PROMISED that the issue would be dealt with before Christmas. It is now the end of February and nothing has been done. A few months ago, when my shower broke, despite the fact that it was gushing water 24/7 (and despite having a dedicated maintenance department) it took a week and 5 emails/ phone calls until some one came to look at it. By this point the floor was flooding but he just said 'oh yeah, it's broken' and then went away saying he'd be back to fix it in a day or two. They took another 2 1/2 weeks, 4 emails and 3 phone calls before they sent someone back to fix it - and on the second to last phone call they had the cheek to blame me, because apparently their maintenance guy made up that he'd already done it, and I should have psychically known this and called them even more times to get the message across. Every time I ask why a maintenance issue is taking months or why fairly key services like phone/internet services aren't available they tell me that it's a listed building and so they have to be 'very careful' not to cause any damage. However, the pipe at the front of the house has leaking heavily since about November, gradually rotting through an C18th balcony two floors up (it has sagged in the middle and is at breaking point), staining the front of the building and flooding the courtyard - which is now swamp-like and absolutely reeks. I've pointed it out to maintenance and emailed them about it numerous times - the council even wrote to them about it 8 weeks ago - but they've just ignored this. Finally, to bring it to a head, on Monday two residents on the 4th floor (who I had never met) went psycho, smashed up all the cars along the street, emptied their rubbish bins into the little courtyard directly outside my window, threw all of their glass and crockery out the window at passers-by and when I went outside to find out what the noise was, threw an iron at me which missed me by about a foot, nearly killing me. All the residents had to evacuate and shelter behind a van until the police took them away and then several of us had to spend all night in a police station giving statements. Called Ventra the next day, really shaken, and they just said "yeah, I know" as if I was bothering them unnecessarily, made it really clear they didn't give a s***. Eventually I got them to agree to hand the guy an eviction notice but they probably won't. Also, they told me they'd make him clear up the festering rubbish outside my window but they evidently haven't bothered as it's still there. Also, through all of this they have absolutely refused to give me any kind of rent reduction and have threatened to charge me huge late fees if I argue. They have also adamantly refused to let me speak to the landlord myself. Whatever you do, do not rent through these vile, nasty people. When I came to view a property the guy moving out next door warned me that they were cowboys and I wish I'd listened. The guy I spoke to at the council also told me that a huge amount of the complaints they receive are about Ventra. Not holding out much hope of ever seeing my extortionate deposit again, either.
